ZORBAS: The Book-The Film-The Dance. The Hellenic Community of Ireland took part in the Liberties Festival 2026 by co-celebrating 80 years since the first publication of the novel Zorbas with the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, which donated a prize of 8 books of Zorbas and 8 books of the Serpent and the Lily by Nikos Kazantzakis. The book became a film by director Michalis Kakoyiannis and the music of Mikis Theodorakis gave us the famous Zorbas dance. Two members of our Greek Dancing in Ireland dancing group demonstrated part of the dance to the enthusiastic participants, including Imelda May, Austin Campbell l and #michaelmcdermott, while the screen by Crowdlink showed clips from the film.
